Healthy Schools Scheme

The school is extremely proud to have been re-accredited with the Healthy Schools Award. We are delighted to have achieved the highest standards of health and wellbeing in all seven Healthy Schools categories once again. Departments within the school continually assess and make provision for students’ health and wellbeing. Thank you to the staff and students who have helped showcase the wonderful work they do.

Llantwit Major School has been participating in the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme (WNHSS) (part of Schools for Health in Europe) for many years. The aim of the scheme is to 'promote and protect the physical, emotional and social health and well being of children and young people in Wales'. It is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as playing a key role in promoting the health of children and young people.

Llantwit Major School has been awarded the National Quality Award (NQA).

The Healthy Schools Scheme expects schools to address 7 key health topics:

Mental & Emotional Health & Wellbeing
Personal Development & Relationships
Substance Use & Misuse
Environment
Safety
Hygiene

We were the first secondary school in the Vale of Glamorgan to have achieved the prestigious Healthy Schools National Quality Award.

The School received the award in 2012 and was reaccredited in 2014, 2016 and again in 2018.

WNHSS National Quality Award

The National Quality Award is awarded to schools that have achieved the highest standards in all seven Healthy Schools aspects of health and well-being.

To achieve this award schools will have to have participated in the scheme for a minimum of nine years, and to have covered and sustained all the seven health topic areas set out in the WG “Indicators for the WNHSS National Quality Award."
