Wellbeing & Safeguarding
Everyone has a responsibility for safeguarding children. Every child can be hurt, put at risk of harm or abused, regardless of their age, gender, religion or ethnicity. Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:
- protecting children from maltreatment
- preventing impairment of children’s health or development
- ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
Safeguarding Statement
Llantwit Major School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of all students and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, students, and staff at school. Any concerns are passed through members of staff who are trained as ‘Designated Safeguarding Persons’ in school compliance statutory guidance.
The Designated Safeguarding Leads are Miss H Toms, Mrs C Robins and Mr K Francis. They are supported by Miss J Knight, Mr R Jones and Mr D Tomsa and pastoral staff including progress leaders and wellbeing officers.
The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their children. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.
The school’s child protection policy is available online. This policy is based upon the model child protection policy provided in Welsh Government guidance document "Keeping learners safe 2022".
How to Report a Safeguarding Concern for Parents & Learners
If you have a safeguarding concern you wish to discuss with the school you can contact the team via the pupils progress leader email below. Alternatively you can complete a Parent Safeguarding Reporting Form.
Parent Safeguarding Reporting Form
If, at any point, you believe there to be risk of immediate serious harm to a child in your community and you are unable to seek advice from the school you are able to contact the police or child social services directly.
